In this review, I will not only talk about the Wismec ACTIVE mod, in which the Chinese have built in a wireless speaker, but also about my long-term experience of using it.
Internals and water resistance
The device came into my hands at the very beginning of 2019. Before regular and active use began, photographs were taken, but then something “went wrong,” and the publication of this article was constantly postponed. australian vape shop brisbane Four years later, just at the moment when it completely disappeared from sale in all online stores – now is the best time to release a review! There is simply no point in delaying it any further.
Packaging and delivery
The device was sold either as a separate battery pack or bundled with an Amor NS Plus tank. I ended up with the first option. The box is cardboard, thick and black, on the front side there is a photo of the device in the current color, the name and main features in the form of pictograms, drawn with an obvious error (WiFi is shown instead of Bluetooth). On the sides there are marks of social networks (now most likely dead), a sticker with an authentication code and once again the Wismec logo. The back of the box is almost empty, there is only a modest delivery package, a sales barcode, several certificate icons and the manufacturer’s address. How cool the boxes looked without all those scary messages about the dangers of nicotine!
Contents of delivery
Inside, in soft foam rubber, will be the mod itself, next to it is a tiny box with extras, and on top of it is a small but colorful instruction.
The extras are also not very rich; there is just a simple carabiner and a USB-A to microUSB charging cable.
Constructive
At first glance, the device does not seem like a vape at all. Perforated bright side panels, a silicone case and a dedicated hanging loop make it as close as possible to a wireless speaker designed in a travel style. Only if you look closely, you will notice a modest screen on the side of the brutal case and a 510 connector on top. All buttons and the charging port are covered with a silicone case, but are highlighted and even labeled in some places. This is necessary for both impact resistance and water resistance. According to the IP65 standard, the device can be safely thrown into dust or briefly exposed to water jets in any direction. It will not be damaged under the rain, but swimming with the device or diving is still not worth it. Next, I will definitely open the case and we will see how it works.
Apart from utilitarian protrusions on the silicone number, the purpose of which is to increase impact resistance, there are essentially no decorations on the sides. A small manufacturer’s logo can not be considered as such. The case itself with perforations is already a decoration, because there are very few real holes there – only in front of the speaker, and everything else is a prop and fiction. The vape controls are hidden on the high thin edge (Fire button, screen, double control button and charging port), and on the low edge under the hinge there are four column control buttons.
The 510 connector at the top of the mod does not need to be particularly described; everything about it is correct and good: the positive pin is spring-loaded, there is a recess in the central part that prevents the evaporators from sticking. It itself is slightly raised relative to the body, but this is almost completely hidden by the thickness of the cover placed on top. The microUSB charging port is currently very outdated; not everyone even has a free cable of this format. But at the time of its release it was quite common.
But the silicone case has one unpleasant feature: it quickly collects small debris and dust. If on a hike or on a picnic you somehow “don’t care,” then when using it at home it’s incredibly annoying. Sometimes there were even thoughts of abandoning the top layer altogether, fortunately it can be removed without any problems.
Without a case, the mod looks a little clumsy, but also impressive. All buttons are visible, highlighted and protected by bright yellow silicone, which confirms the water resistance. But the open charging port and the Reset hole that opened next to it make us a little doubt this fact.
Interface and mod control
The device turns on by pressing the Fire button five times. But this only applies to the vape electronics; part of the speaker is completely independent. After turning on, you will see the most important information on the screen: approximate battery charge, evaporator resistance, voltage and current. Next to it, large numbers will indicate the current power or temperature if you are in thermal control mode. By pressing the setting keys, you will change the power values from 1 to 80 Watts, while at values less than 20 the accuracy will increase by 0.1 Watt, and then only by whole numbers.
To open the menu, quickly press Fire three times. Here you can select other modes of operation of the mod: variable watt, thermal control, bypass. For finer settings, you will have to turn off the device by pressing Fire five times. In standby mode, combined options become available: holding Fire and “+” will show the remaining voltage on the battery, Fire and “-” will open a submenu of TCR thermal control and pre-hit settings in wattage mode. Pressing both control buttons at the same time will flip the screen.
Interface and control of Bluetooth speaker
Behind the four buttons is a regular Chinese Bluetooth module. Actually these are “Play/Pause”, “Next/Vol.Down”, “Next/Vol.Up” and “On/Off”. After turning on the speaker with the fourth button, the robobaba will inform you in a confident English voice about its current status and wait for it to connect to your phone. This process is standard: go to settings and bind the WISMEC ACTIVE device to the phone. Then you can control the device both from your smartphone and using buttons. Working in tandem with modern smartwatches also works, there are no glitches.
Personal impressions
If we consider the device specifically as a vape, then it is very mediocre. The maximum power is low, the controls are oaky, and the buttons are difficult to press. Even removing the cover does not improve the situation much; regular misclicks are guaranteed. On the one hand, the support of an evaporator resistance of 0.05 Ohm is pleasing, but on the other hand, I don’t want to use it. Still, the quality of the built-in battery is unknown and it’s still a pleasure to test what will happen to it in extreme operating modes from your own experience.
There are no complaints about the performance of the column. Loud, simple and, given the huge built-in battery, really long-lasting. Calmly keeps a distance of 15 meters from a mobile phone in a field or three or four walls inside an apartment. Over the past four years, the device has been with me at all picnics, barbecues and drinking parties, twice flown by plane to the sea and once survived a children’s party. Rain tests also happened, but there were no falls into the water. How is it better than a regular speaker? Just the presence of a built-in vape. If your main device breaks, then out of desperation you can screw almost anything here and continue to soar. This is the use case where Wismec Active is simply great.
Internals and water resistance
As promised at the beginning of the review, the case is opened to check the manufacturer’s statements. Everything seems to be fine here. Additional seals are installed around the perimeter of the covers, and the microUSB connector is also presented in a protected version. But the space behind the RST hole is covered exclusively with a piece of foam rubber. It will protect against splashes, but when immersed in water for a long time, it will clearly allow moisture to enter the case.
The speaker also has a rubberized diffuser, and the inside is also filled with hot-melt glue around the perimeter. There is no need to worry about moisture getting in from this side.
Bluetooth speaker as a separate and completely independent board. The only pity is that the charging controller for the built-in battery is located on the side of the vape and in the event of its death it will pull everything along with it.
