One day, the inventive engineers from Wismec sat down, vaped, and asked themselves: “What do active vapers lack in a box mod?” And they decided that it was dust and moisture protection and… a wireless speaker!

Wismec Active Packaging

The cute black and gray box in which the device arrives turned out to be quite an impressive size with a print on the front side of the mod of the color that is inside. If in doubt, you can always check yourself by the inscription near the barcode on the back side, judging by it, I got the Orange version. australian vape shop adelaide Among the pile of inscriptions, icons, and links, you can only find information about the maximum power of the box, the current consumed during charging, a list of the delivery set, and a sticker with a check for originality on the Wismec website. Inside the thin cardboard sleeve is a denser box with the manufacturer’s logo embossed on the lid.

The box mod can be purchased in two versions: either separately or in a set with the Amor NS Plus tank. The second one is suitable if you need at least some kind of atomizer, there is nothing particularly remarkable about it except for different-sized evaporators. In addition to the standard good cable, you can also find a small carabiner with a quick lock in a separate box. The sheet-manual is traditionally quite impressive, includes Russian, but for the most part contains information on managing the built-in speaker and very little about the mod itself.

Appearance and design of Wismec Active

The device that I received is designed in black and orange colors, the case itself is made of plastic, the side orange panels have a rough coating and perforation. The overall appearance is utilitarian and has a large number of relief recesses that allow you to hold the device perfectly in your hand. The protection of the Wismec Active case corresponds to the international classification IP65. Do not think that the device can be fearlessly “drowned” in cans and basins, as in the promo photos and videos of the manufacturer and stores. According to the International Protection Marking classification, the first digit “6” means: “dust cannot get into the device, full protection from contact”; the second “5”: “protection from water jets from any direction”, which is not the same as when immersed (“7”, “8”). Although the board inside the case is protected from dust, the small holes in the grilles collect dust and debris well. Part of the protection in case of a fall is provided by a thick silicone bumper case, in which the box mod is dressed.

In addition to the fact that the bumper takes on the task of impact resistance (it protrudes slightly above the side panels), it also has a plug for the USB port and reset button, preventing moisture from getting inside the case through these holes. Do not forget to make sure that it securely covers the connector if you are going to use the device in extreme conditions. The silicone “clothes” sit on the device very tightly, but if you constantly take it off and put it on, it will most likely stretch.

In addition to the black complete case, you can buy several more options in various cheerful colors. Whether they will go on sale at all and when is a separate question.

Without the case, the mod does not look so nice, the joints and seams of the plastic, fasteners all over the case and silicone inserts that hermetically cover the buttons become visible. In this form, the mod is more reminiscent of a child’s toy or even some kind of baby monitor.

Wismec Active Box Mod Colors

There are only three options to choose from: black, steel, and orange (as in this review). In all cases, we are talking only about the color of the side panels, the body and the included bumper will be black everywhere.

Impressions and conclusions

Wismec Active and the included bumperThe device left some mixed impressions. On the one hand, the built-in speaker copes with its task perfectly, plays loudly and is generally good, but the mod itself seemed a bit raw. In my copy, I often caught misfires, both when pressing the button and when holding it: the device works, then stops, then works again, as if the contact in the button itself is lost. Over time, this glitch began to occur less often, perhaps the button “has not developed”, and the problem is only in my copy. It is not very clear why a small 510 connector is used, it is even smaller than 22 mm. And this is despite the fact that the device is equipped with a tank of a noticeably larger diameter on the landing (the characteristics indicate ∅27 mm, but I think we are talking about the flask). The device supports resistance from 0.05 Ohm, with a current output of 50 A, you can even vape a dripper. True, not for long, there is no ventilation of the board and the device quickly overheats. A purely personal minus is the built-in battery, and of a very low capacity, 2100 mAh seem completely frivolous. Yes, for a speaker this is a normal battery, but as a power source for a box mod – not enough, only if you use the scenario that this is first of all a speaker, and then a battery mod. It would be better if there was at least one 18650, but replaceable.

Appearance of Wismec Active In my opinion, the appearance of such devices clearly indicates a “genre crisis”, when nothing truly new can be invented in the industry for a long time and an outright “screwing on” of everything possible and not very necessary begins. The company positions the device for outdoor activities? Let’s then build in a mini-jack, a flashlight, a compass, a level, a penknife and a GPS navigator. And from there it’s not far to some “dialer” on Android, color displays have been successfully installed in “vapes” for a long time. Probably, Wismec was a little late with the release of the device, starting sales at the very end of summer, in the spring the device would have been much more relevant. In addition, the target audience of the box mod is too obvious: I often meet these same owners of Bluetooth speakers on the streets. And here we also have a vape! I have some doubts. Does the market need such a “device with music”? Sure, it will have its buyers. Do you need it…? You can buy a wireless speaker cheaper, however, you can’t vape on it. In general, we have a real “schoolboy’s dream”, only a spinner is missing.
